How do I know a charger will be compatible with my car?

The vast majority of vehicle manufacturers use a standard known as ‘Mode 3 Charging’ and this applies to nearly all brands of car. Call us to discuss specifics if you are unsure or need any advice on how and where we can install around your home.

Getting an EV charging point installed at home means you’ll be able to plug in conveniently overnight, just like you do with your mobile phone, to ensure your car is always topped up.

Cost of charging an electric car at home

Charging your electric car at home is the main charging option for most EV owners. It’s important to be on the best home energy tariff to keep this cost as low as possible because the cost of charging will be included in your normal electricity bill.

How much charging costs will depend on the amount of charging you do, the type of charger you have and also how much you use public charging.

Did you know?

Most of the leading fast chargers are rated at 7kw which will charge most vehicles to 100% in between 6-8 hours. A standard 3.7kW charging unit will typically take 6-8 hours to charge a modern electric vehicle, however we can also install a 7.4kW charging unit which can charge a modern electric vehicle in half that time (3-5 hours).

Some chargers can even be integrated with meter/electric monitoring system – solar panel system – to ensure you are only charging your car during off-peak times. This uses excess solar energy once your home and water is heated.

Government funding is available to encourage greater use of electric vehicles. We can help you apply for Government incentives to help with the installation of your EV charging point – up to 75% of the cost in some cases. Please contact us for more information.

“I contacted Bedwell Electrical and they were very helpful on the phone. On the day of the installation, the work was all explained in detail, and the installation was carried out by the Bedwell Team. They left everything clean and tidy. I was shown through the system on how to use and operate the home charger. I would definitely recommend Bedwell Electrical and use them for future work.”
